Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Care & Reablement Solutions Limited (CRS) is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, and to reducing our emissions year on year.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the GHG emissions that occurred before the introduction of any strategies to reduce them. Baseline year: financial year ending 31 March 2025.
| Scope | Source | Emissions (tCO2e) |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 | Direct: office heating and any owned/pool vehicles | 1.5 |
| Scope 2 | Indirect: purchased electricity (office) | 1.7 |
| Scope 3 (included) | Business travel in staff vehicles (care visits), waste and water | 27.3 |
| Total | 30.5 |
As a small domiciliary and reablement care provider, our footprint is modest and is dominated by staff travel between care visits; office energy use is minor.
Current emissions reporting
As this is our first Carbon Reduction Plan, the current reporting year is the same as the baseline year (financial year ending 31 March 2025): total 30.5 tCO2e (Scope 1: 1.5; Scope 2: 1.7; Scope 3 included: 27.3).
Emissions reduction targets
Interim target: reduce absolute emissions by approximately 50% by 2030 (to around 15 tCO2e), primarily by cutting travel emissions and switching to renewable electricity.
Long-term target: achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Progress against these targets will be reviewed annually.
Carbon reduction projects
- Reducing travel emissions (our largest source): on-site care delivery removes most travel between visits; efficient rostering and route planning minimise mileage; car-sharing, active travel, and a progressive transition toward hybrid/electric vehicles.
- Renewable electricity: moving to a certified renewable electricity tariff.
- Energy efficiency: LED lighting, efficient equipment, switch-off/standby discipline.
- Digital by default: electronic care management and paperless records.
- Waste reduction: cutting single-use plastics, recycling, and safe reuse/donation.
- Sustainable procurement: favouring local suppliers to reduce transport miles.
- Staff engagement: embedding sustainable practice in induction and training.
Reporting methodology
Emissions have been estimated in line with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the reporting requirements of PPN 06/21, using UK Government (DESNZ/BEIS) GHG conversion factors, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and the material Scope 3 categories relevant to a domiciliary care provider (business travel, waste, water). Figures are current best estimates and will be refined as metered energy and mileage data are collected.
Declaration and sign-off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and confirms our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050.
